The modern car has a high plastic content, which can often be repaired with no strength loss. The most obvious plastic item is the bumper, however headlamp housings, grilles and interior mouldings are also generally made of plastic and are normally repairable.
Plastics have a memory so when correctly treated, these items can be remolded back to their original shape. After reshaping, any splits are welded using a welding rod compatible with the original material.
With bumpers, repairs can be made invisible, by being primed with a specifically designed plastic primer. The bumper can then be colour coded to match your car.
Plastic repair is a specialists job. Our craftsmen are in house trained and have up to 15 years experience in plastic welding.
This late model bumper has been reshaped and the split being welded via a V groove on the outside. It will then be welded on the inside and strapped for extra strength. (see middle right hand side picture)
In addition to bumpers a range of other items can be repaired:
- Fibreglass
- Motor Cycle Fairings
- Farm Equipment
- Head Light Bases
- Grilles
- A wide variety of domestic or industrial plastics
Please note that there are several different types of plastic, and not all of them are repairable in this way. Some auto components are manufactured from non-repairable plastic (ashtrays are a common example).
